What is Meatless Monday?
Restaurant Associates has teamed up with The Monday Campaigns—
one of which is Meatless Monday—to promote the global movement
of cutting meat one day a week. Consuming more plant-based foods,
while reducing meat consumption, is good for your health and our
environment. Eggs and dairy are considered meatless.
Our culinary team has crafted and curated delicious and satisfying
meatless meals that you can feature at various stations throughout our cafe. Included in this manual are tried and true "Star Items“
which are guaranteed to be a hit in our café space.
Why Monday?
Research suggests that people are more willing to try healthy
behaviors at the start of the week. Monday offers an opportunity to
reset and get back on track after any lapses that may have occurred
over the weekend. Monday is therefore a powerful day to leverage
healthy promotions. Research shows that 35% of people view Monday
as an opportunity for a "fresh start," and 20% view Monday as a day to
"get my act together."
Benefits of Going Meatless
Health
Consuming less red and processed meat, and replacing it with plantbased foods, can improve heart and kidney health, reduce your risk of
type 2 diabetes, and help with weight management, among many
other benefits.
Sustainability
Reducing meat consumption means less livestock production. This
translates to lower greenhouse gas emissions and lower demand for
environmental resources like water, land, and energy. Skipping one
serving of beef every Monday for a year saves the equivalent
emissions to driving 348 miles in a car.
Financial Savings
Plant-based foods typically cost less than meat-based items, and tends
to have less price fluctuation.
Stimulates Culinary Innovation
Creating substantial meatless dishes is not an easy task. Meatless
Monday will encourage chefs to think outside of the box and rely
more on cooking technique, flavors, and textures.
Stay Current
Today's shift toward plant-based eating is apparent. By offering more
meatless options on our menus, we can cater to the growing demand.
At the same time, we can empower all guests to make small, yet
impactful, changes in their diet.
